Well before Columbus 'discovered' America in 1492, prehistoric tribes from Asia had come across the Bering Strait around AD 1000 although the Contemporary Asians were to make it only in AD 2000.

Canada had always maintained a very lenient policy in inviting immigrants more so in trying at economic expansion and prosperity. Its immigrants include besides its original 40% British descent, 25% French descent, significant minorities of Asian viz Oriental, Indian, Srilankan descents.

Immigrants aspiring to move to Canada can apply for permanent residence via four major categories.

  • Business Category
  • Family Business Category
  • Family Class Category
  • Investor Category
  • Refugee Category
  • Humanitarian Grounds
  • Procedure:
    All intending immigrants must be able to present to a Canadian consular office the following:
    · an Application for Permanent Residence and supplementary applications for his/her spouse and all dependent children along with the requisite processing fee.
    · valid passport.
    · original birth certificates issued by an official institution
    · employment or business background vide letters of reference from employers/ business
    · educational credentials - degrees, diplomas or certificates.
    · financial net worth - a bank statement attesting to funds on deposit, share and stock certificates, official valuations of property, etc.
    · marriage certificates, if applicable
    · divorce decrees and custody orders, if applicable

    Once the application is processed and approved all immigration applicants and their dependent family must undergo a medical examination, as per immigration procedures. And acquire a police certificate from country of origin and or country of current residence attesting to no criminal conviction. The Canadian consular office having approved the application and if the medical and police certification are in order will schedule the applicant and his/her spouse (and children over 18) for an immigrant interview. There might be exceptions where interviews are waived.
